Meet the Team at Flack Manor Brewery
Nigel has over 35 years’ experience in the brewing industry.
Starting in the 1980s as an order taker and delivery boy at Ringwood Brewery, Nigel learnt the art of brewing from Peter Austin, the father of micro-brewing, before Peter retired in 1988. Nigel modestly recalls brewing the Champion Beer of Britain in 1988 as “more of an accident than judgment”. However, he played a major part in Ringwood Brewery’s leap in production from 2,000 barrels to 34,000 barrels.
In 2009, Nigel set up Flack Manor with Ann and Terry, having seen an opportunity in the area to revive brewing in Romsey industry.
In his “spare” time, Nigel enjoys playing tennis, gardening and skiing. He is happily married with three grown up children, who regularly return home to sample the latest beer from Flack Manor!
Tim, the more ginger, more annoyingly cheerful member of the ‘distribution department’, has
been working for Flack Manor since 2013. After running pubs and restaurants for many years,
Tim made the change to draying to not only spend time with his young family but also with
‘Cliff’ his transit van.
In the van Tim enjoys listening to podcasts, audiobooks and cricket or wallows in the past
listening to his music; and his dedication to work means sometimes he will even miss Popmaster.
When he isn’t spending free time with his girls, Tim will be found savouring a bottle of Romsey
Gold on the golf course (yes drinking and ‘driving’) or keeping it session with a Flack Catcher
whilst spelunking in his or his friend’s man caves
Ann Stantiford is never happier than when surrounded by customers and hops.
From a family background in Horticulture Ann worked her apprenticeship at Haskins and gained qualifications at both Kingston Maurward and Hadlow College. One could say an act of fate took Ann to Ringwood Brewery where she worked for 20 years as Field Sales Manager, enjoying success along with now fellow director Nigel Welsh.
In 2008 Ann went back to her green and creative roots to complete a Botanical Art Degree but soon realised she missed the Brewing and Pub industry. Satisfying this craving, Ann re-formed with Nigel Welsh to establish Flack Manor Brewery. Business trips to Britain’s finest hop gardens (albeit resisting the urge to sketch the fine details and cite Latin credentials) are now a welcome treat from an incredibly busy role as Sales and Marketing Director.
Terry’s background follows a culturally different journey.
Having helped set up and run, as chief brewer, the River Walk Brewery in Augusta, Georgia, USA, Terry also studied brewing in Federal Jacks Brewpub Kennybunkport, Maine, which was run by an ex pupil of Peter Austin.
Drawing on his expertise gained across the pond and maintaining his sharp attention to detail, Terry re-connected with Nigel (having previously worked together) and jumped at the opportunity of setting up Flack Manor Brewery – as Director and Head Brewer.
Terry recently tied the knot and rejoiced by brewing a TPA, (Flack’s own IPA ) affectionately known as Terry’s Pale Ale. And it was so good, it become one of Flack’s seasonal ales, so everyone can celebrate their own special occasion.
Vicky joined the brewery in January 2013 and is our stalwart internal sales team member who deals quickly and efficiently with real ale orders, being a pivotal point for getting things done. Behind the headset, Vicky has a penchant for cinema (superhero films in particular), pub quizzes and live music. A keen gardener with an allotment to tend, Vicky finds refreshment at a favourite pub – The Ship at Redbridge
– which stocks Vicky’s favourite tipples – Hedge Hop and Romsey Gold.
Experienced haulier Steve left his 26 tonner behind to join Flack Manor in 2014.
Married to our newest member of staff Sarah New, petrol head Steve is a keen
supporter of the Eastleigh Spitfires and a general all-round sports fanatic. He does,
however, draw the line at synchronised swimming (yes, one lovely lady is enough
Steve). With a favourite tipple of Romsey Gold, his penchant for hats and his
signature Converse shoes, Steve is often seen at his local, enjoying the role of
Pub quiz master.
Simon started off working in pubs where he developed an interest in real ale. He then turned
from retail to brewing and started working for a local brewery doing field sales. Everything
seemed to slot into place and Simon has worked in brewery sales now for 11 years, amassing
lots of experience. Easy going yet hard working, Simon is happy to turn a hand to delivering or
doing telesales in the office. For relaxation, Simon enjoys going out for a pint of real ale and
spending lots of time walking his two dogs with the family
Jack’s passion for real ale began when his Grandfather brought him his first pint. A true convert,
it wasn’t until after he completed his degree in Environmental Science and worked for some
time as an account handler in the home entertainments industry that he decided to pursue
a career in brewing. As luck would have it, Flack Manor was looking to hire a trainee so Jack
started in September 2014. Jack is now part way through a post-graduate diploma in brewing
and distilling at Heriot-Watt University, which he undertakes via distance learning. Additional
passions include snowboarding and holidaying in the USA, home country of his girlfriend
